Centralized Backup Management

Hi Guys,

A feature request here... I'd like the ability to create backup jobs/templates in cloudmin then with a few clicks simply "apply" them to 1 or more virtualmin servers.

Unless I'm missing something, right now we have to touch each server, create the backup job from scratch, schedule it. Very time consuming and very hard to be consistent across servers.

Also, have a simple centralized log/notification that would shout out if a backup fails is needed too. I should be able to view failed jobs/notices from cloudmin.

Thanks for your consideration on this and if you need any additional information just let me know.

Thanks!

Can't you create a single schedule backup in Virtualmin that applies to all your domains?

Yes, I can create jobs in virtualmin on each server. I'm talking about multiple virtualmin servers. Why create the same backup job on 10 different servers when I feel this is something we could roll out at the cloudmin level. It's no different than the ability to create domains on vm servers from cloudmin. You can go to each vm server and create them.

Typed my last response from my phone and I'm not sure I did a good job explaining...

We have multiple vm servers, currently we have to go to each server and create the backups. So let's say we want to run a daily incremental backup on all domains on all our vm servers. Rather than doing that X times on each vm server - then having to monitor X servers for backup failures I thought the ability to "apply" a backup to vm instances would be a handy enhancement.

The second part, and equally critical component, is some type of reporting in cloudmin that let's you see if anything failed.

Thanks!

Ok, I see what you mean now - that is actually a pretty good idea for a Cloudmin feature.

I will look into implementing this, and update this ticket when we have something.

That sounds great!

There are 2 critical items that must be part of whatever solution you roll out. A central location to see manage/status of all backups (success/failure/running/create/edit/delete/etc) AND to also see servers that are NOT being backed up. The other is the current backup log retention just doesn't work/match well with the jobs. For example, keep logs for 7 days - what about the monthly backup we retain that's 2 months old? That log is gone. I rather see a log retention method that mirrors the job retention schedule.

Thanks!

This is being actively worked on right now, so expect to see it in the next release.

Oh that is excellent!!!
