Just wondering how might I determine why all of a sudden a server goes from a perfect record of backups to about 30% failure. Can you suggest how to debug the issue?

Howdy -- can you show us the output you receive during the backup process?

False alarm. I just left the default settings which means it was trying to backup everything and when I just selected a subset of things it worked fine. I think it is the awstats file is not present and so it dies. Not enough sleep yesterday when it happened or I would have seen the problem.
