We built a new server to replace and elderly one, restored all the domains to the new server, renamed and addressed it to match the old server and all is fine, except the log files all show the temporary server name even though it is correct in the host file and in the network settings. We've looked everywhere. Any idea where the log is getting that old name?

Howdy -- it may just be that the old server name is cached in one or more of the services running on your system.
A reboot should fix that. Or, you could always try giving syslog a restart, that may be all it needs.
Note though that you'd want to make sure that the command "hostname" returns your expected name prior to doing the above.

That was it. I restarted rsyslog and all is well now. Thanks. Jeff
