Question about changing "dev" domain names.

Hi there,

I'm still kind of a newbie when it comes to virtualmin. I have a question if you don't mind.

We will be moving a wordpress install from apache running on an old xserve. Say the site is currently called "intranet.mydomain.com"

I want to keep the old site up while we work on the new site, but want to be able to change the URL and domain name on virtualmin and all after we move.

So I thought about creating a virtual server called "intranet.dev.mydomain.com" and moving the install over to that.

Now, if I move the wordpress install to the newly created "intranet.dev.mydomain.com", can I later easily change the name and URL to "intranet.mydomain.com"? (taking out the dev part in the name) Would would need to be done to make this happen?

I just want to make sure we can change the URL and all in virtualmin before we proceed in setting this up.

Howdy -- there's two parts to that question, the Virtualmin part, and the WordPress part.

To change the domain name in Virtualmin, you can click Server Configuration -> Change Domain Name.

We're not familiar with the process of changing domain names in WordPress, though that may be the more involved part of the moving process.

Looking at the WordPress documentation, it looks like these two URL's may be relevant to what you're trying to do:
