BUG: Domain name style in username

== SETTINGS ==

  • "username" to "username.domain"

  • "Domain name style in username" to "Full domain name"

  • "Include domain name in usernames" to "Always"

== SUB-SERVERS ==

I then proceeded to setup a "sub-server" called "test.domain1.com", "test.domain2.com", and "test.domain3.com".

Finally I added the user "demo" to all 3 domains.

== RESULTING USERNAMES ==

The first FTP username became "demo.test" (incorrect)

The second FTP username became "demo.test.domain2.com" (correct)

The third FTP username became "demo.test.domain3.com" (correct)

== ISSUE ==

The issue as it should be apparent, the first domain DID NOT follow the rules previously set. Instead it used only the first part of the domain (sub-domain) within the username, while the other two did exactly what I had expected.

Did you create the top-level domain before changing the template settings?

=== DISREGARD: test completed on wrong server ===

  1. created "top-level" domain called "testdomain.com" with the username "demo".

  2. created an email user "test1" which created the ftp user "test1.demo"

  3. created "sub-server" domain called "test1.testdomain.com"

  4. created an email user "test2" which created the ftp user "test2.test1"

Hope this helps figure out what's going on...

=== DISREGARD: test completed on wrong server ===

Above test didn't work because the server it was run on didn't have the changes made to the Virtualmin configurations. Upon changing, and re-testing the settings worked.

Having said that, is there an easy way to apply settings like this to existing domains so that new users follow the new rules?

*** not concerned unless it's easy enough to accomplish if existing users follow new rules as they can technically be re-created if needed. ***

Damn, I figured it out...

The clue about having created the domain prior to creating the "top-level" domain was the key. I didn't realize this would lock the settings in for the domain, but after writing my last response I got thinking...

"What would happen if I used Change Domain Name...?"

And upon clicking the link the solution was looking me in the face...

"Change mailbox name suffix and group = Automatically chosen"

Alright, well that's one less matter to worry about... LoLz

Ok, glad you got this worked out.
