I hope that it is alright to use the bug tracker for VM GPL.
I just installed VM version 3.57.gpl on Ubuntu Server 8.04. The only thing that I added during the install of Ubuntu was OpenSSH. Once I got the install done, I did an update with all repos available. I then ran the install script for VM GPL without any issues. I am using usernames of the format name@domain.com. I have verified that the -r switch is in the /etc/default/saslauthd file. Whenever I attempt to send an email, I get this in my /var/log/mail/log file:
May 25 01:09:07 bob postfix/smtpd[14475]: connect from unknown[10.0.0.230]
May 25 01:09:07 bob postfix/smtpd[14475]: warning: SASL authentication failure: cannot connect to saslauthd server: Permission denied
May 25 01:09:07 bob postfix/smtpd[14475]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed
May 25 01:09:07 bob postfix/smtpd[14475]: warning: unknown[10.0.0.230]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: generic failure
I am able to receive email fine as far as I can tell.
I have verified that this problem occurs in the most recent versions of both Outlook Express and Thunderbird.
Please let me know any other info you may need or anything I may need to adjust.
Also, I may have missed it, but I did not see anything in the documentation about defaulting to not allowing plain text logins unless via TLS. It took me a while to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it as I have some clients who just refuse to adjust tyo secure methods.
