I have set up a brand new Debian 6 server, followed your preparatory checklist, then run your install.sh routine. When I first accessed my Virtualmin control panel, I changed not one jot of anything and did no more than set up two new virtual servers. I added a temporary index.php to both document roots, restarted apache and both sites appear on line.
Of course, by default, setting up these new sites gave me two new mail accounts named after their respective domains.
Using my gmail account in my browser, I can happily send email to both my new mail accounts.
Using my personal mail account with roundcube in my browser, I cannot send mail to either of the new accounts. I get a bounce record for one (tied to the second virtual server I created) saying the mailbox does not exist. I get nothing from the attempt to email the other new mailbox - the one tied to the first virtual server I created even though no mail ever appears in its mailbox.
Both of my new mail accounts can email each other.
In attempting to diagnose this I have:
- confirmed my DNS settings, both forwards and backwards, are as expected.
- used telnet to confirm the usual mail ports are open - which we kinda knew from some of the above.
I've pretty much exhausted my diagnostics skills now. I don't know where the fault lies, and so I can't work out what I need to do to fix it. Is it a problem with the settings of the mail server of my personal mail account, or is there some Virtualmin setting I need to check?
Any suggestions about what to do next please?
Regards Mark

Howdy -- the next step would be to review the email logs, as well as show the exact bounce messages that you're seeing.
However, it looks like you're using Virtualmin GPL there... the Support area here is for Virtualmin Pro users. We'd encourage you to use the Forums for obtaining support -- we monitor those, along with lots of wonderful folks in the community.
So, for getting your issue resolved -- we'd recommend starting a new forum thread, explain your issue there, and include a copy of the bounce message you're seeing, along with any messages in your /var/log/maillog file... that will help in troubleshooting the issue. Thanks!

After some lengthy investigation I finally tracked it down as a problem with one of my own mail accounts that I've been using for many years. That account and its associated web site are to be moved to a new server with a new os and a new control panel - hence my interest in Virtualmin as a candidate.
