Not sure if a script updater is expected to 'do it all' but I thought I would relay this experience.
First, I updated phpBB from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1.
Then phpBB instructed me to remove the 'install' directory, normal I think for moving to a usable state.
At first it appeared to be working but in short order, no. (There were some new database fields to be added that handled session management.)
The install directory had contained a install/database_update.php file which was to be run to add the new database fields.
(FYI, once I downloaded and ran install/database_update.php I found it to be totally non-interactive, so it could be launched by wget or lynx I would think.)
Anyhow, I am fine and happy with my phpBB but if the update script were able to execute or at least point these out, it would have saved some time - maybe as simple as advising people to 1) execute install/database_update.php and 2) remove install.php,
Or, give a link to docs/INSTALL.html which provides instructions to the installer.
