Can anyone explain how to best install lshw? With yum it returns that no package is found.

Howdy -- yeah, it doesn't appear as if lshw is included with CentOS 6.
So, you'd need to find an alternate source for that application.
Our usual recommendation there is that if an application isn't in CentOS, that using the EPEL repository is the next best thing.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be in the EPEL repo for CentOS 6.
We've run into problems in the past with the RpmForge repositories, as they have some packages that conflict with those provided by Virtualmin. So you'd have to use caution when using packages from that source.
That said, it does appear as if there is an lshw package available in that repo -- and it should be safe to use that if you just download the RPM, and don't actually setup the entire repository:
