Installation error of Perl Update

Howdy -- we've seen that on occasion, that's a strange problem... you appear to have the i386 version installed, but it's trying to update you with the x86_64 version.

What is the output of this command:

uname -a

Okay, so you do indeed have an x86_64 system.

Here's what I'd try --

First, see if you can remove Perl using this:

rpm -e perl

And then, reinstall it with this command:

yum install perl

Same here, also CentOS 5.5. What command did you use to remove perl?

Out of curiosity, what is the output of this command:

file /bin/ls

Yeah, once you remove the i386, it should only be updating the x86_64 version of Perl.

If you run into further problems with that, let us know and we can dig deeper -- there may be another installed application that's causing it to pull in i386 packages.

I have the same issue when I ran rpm -e perl-5.8.8-32.el5_6.3.i386 it was removed but then ran yum install perl

It does appear it is related to some extras whatever that means but it does reinstall it again without requesting it to do so.

What output do you guys get if you run this command:

cat /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo

If you could mask out the Virtualmin serial/license number before pasting that output here, that'd be great... thanks!

FYI I had the same problem and the above workaround solved it. I note that the i386 version is being reinstalled from the extras repo:
