Failed to create system : No suitable host system could be found

I get the following error whenever I try to use a 'System Owner' account to create a Xen (open source) instance and set the disk size to more than 4GB. Error is "Failed to create system : No suitable host system could be found". The disks have plenty of space and the user is allocated 20GB of storage and has no instances. If I log in with a "Master Admin", everything works fine. If I set the disk image to 4GB or less, everything works fine with the System Owner account. Cloudmin Pro runs on a CentOS 5.7 based system and Xen runs on a Debian Lenny based system. No errors are logged to the webmin.log.

Is the system owner perhaps over his total disk limit? This can be set as root at Virtual System Owners -> Account Plans -> the owner's plan -> Maximum disk space for systems.

Alternately, can root create a new VM with more than 4 GB of disk space?

No, the owner is not over the limit - he has 20 GB and none of it is used. Output from owner:

Limits and usage against plan Virtual systems 0 out of 2 RAM assigned to systems 0 bytes out of 1024 MB Disk assigned to systems 0 bytes out of 20 GB CPU assigned to systems 0% out of unlimited IP addresses active on systems 0 out of 2 Bandwidth used by systems 0 bytes out of 100 GB Backup space used 0 bytes out of unlimited

Root can create a Xen VM with more than 4GB of disk space without any problems.

Does the system owner perhaps have any restrictions on which host systems he is allowed to create vms on?

It is possible in this case that the only systems he is allowed to use have less than 4gb of disk free.

Any update? My clients are getting restless.

Did you see my comment #3 above?

We recently updated to Cloudmin 5.8. It is possible that the problem started at that time. We know that in the past, we were able to create vms with larger disks.

Strangely, comment #3 is missing. It goes from #2 to #4. Could you re-post it?

Also, a little bit more info - the user can create an image of up to 4GB and then is able to resize the image without any problems.

Thanks for your help.

I fixed comment #3, hopefully, take a peek and see if that's visible to you now.

It is visible now. Thanks. Unfortunately, the user has no restrictions and none of the Xen host servers have less than 70GB free. For testing it removed all but one Xen server and still have the same problem. Once the user creates the machine (no larger than 4GB), they can immediately turn around and expand the disk to the limit in their plan. For completeness sake, I have also verified that none of the disks are formatted as fat32 (which has a 4GB file size limit). All disks are ext3. To paint a more complete picture, the system layout is as follows. Cloudmin runs on a vmware vm. Xen is on a dedicated box. When the machines are created, they are stored on a NAS that is attached to the Xen server via NFS. I know this all worked previously, and seems to have broken with the last round of updates (Cloudmin and CentOS on the cloudmin server.

Thanks for your ongoing assistance. -Andy

I may have to login to your system myself to see what is going wrong here .. let me know via email at jcameron@virtualmin.com if this is possible.

Also, on the VM creation form, does the system owner have the option to select a host system location group (via the "Location group" field) ?

I am sending you the login credentials in an encrypted message.

The system owner does not have the ability to choose a host system. The system with the most free RAM is used. Just for kicks, I tried removing the location group altogether and retested with the same result. I still have the other Xen servers removed as well so there is only one Xen host system involved currently.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I have logged in and am taking a look to see if I can re-produce the problem. I will create a test system owner account to use ..

Ok, I see the cause of this now .. it is a Cloudmin bug. I can send you an updated RPM package with a fix if you like, or you can wait for the next Cloudmin release.

It would be great if you could send the update (unless the next release is right around the corner). Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.

Ok, I have sent the update via email ..

Fix worked beautifully. Thanks again.
