post install question

hi, i just installed a fresh minimal centos 6 x86_64 and installed the latest virtualmin via wget and licensed it, after the install, everything looks good. A few followup questions:

  1. I got a warning about being behind a firewall. What module do i need to update to make sure virtualmin is accessible from outside the firewall, along with all of my domains?

  2. I plan to install several domains with webapps running on them, all sharing the same IP. Is there a convenience domain name that I can use to test the websites before I actually switch the DNS records? Since they all share the same IP, I cannot test by IP.

THank you

For 1, what is the error message you are getting exactly?

For 2, you can check the website before changing DNS from within virtualmin, at Services -> Preview Website.

The server is behind a NAT firewall (pfsense 2). The server's local IP is 192.168... and pfsence is mapping the external ip to it.

The warning comes when you "re-check configuration":

Default IP address is set to 192.168.XX.XXX, but the detected external address is actually 98.136.15.119. This is typically the result of being behind a NAT firewall, and should be corrected on the module configuration page.

How should his be handled, both on the virtualmin server itself, and the external DNS?

I understand I can use preview website, but is there some way to give a URL to a client?

THanks

The key is to go into System Settings -> Virtualmin Config -> Network Settings, and set "Default IP address for DNS records" to "Automatically detect external address".

That will set it so that the DNS zone files created for your domains use the external IP address of your router.

Then, you just need to make sure your router is forwarding port 80 into your server.

OK i did that. I'd like to open a new ticket to share some private information. so let's close this one thank you
