Too much memory

After upgrading Virtualmin to 3.87pro I had to re-check the configuration. The re-check reports the following message: "Your system has 5.84 GB of memory, which is at or above the Virtualmin recommended limit of 256 MB." What does that mean? I don't think that 256MB are enough for all Apache, MySQL, PHP, ... processes running on that server! Currently there are 5.6GB used!

The message doesn't mean that 256 MB are sufficient in every situation, but that this is the "recommended absolute minimum" amount of memory with which you can, provided you take proper severe saving measures, operate Virtualmin.

Of course, with only 256 MB, you won't get very far if you expect the whole smash like SpamAssassin, ClamAV, MySQL, FCGI and multiple web sites.

But when you turn off enough stuff and reduce the amount of hosted sites, 256 MB should work. I'm using Virtualmin e.g. on a 512 MB VPS, running one specific website, just fine with 220 MB usage.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry, I read the message too fast. It doesn't compain, it's an informational message... =)

Yes indeed, it's a "positive confirmation", like "the check confirms that you have (more than) enough memory to run Virtualmin". :-) (No need to apologize, I can quite see how one can confuse this message for an error report.)
