This appears to be a regression as subservers I created a few weeks ago (with some earlier version of Virtualmin) do not have this problem.
The problem is that a subserver with email enabled will have the default mail aliases with incorrect destination addresses. In 3.43 and 3.42 they are being set to owner@subserver.tld instead of owner@parentserver.tld as before. Trying to send mail to webmaster@subserver.tld results in a bounced message with this error:
