E-mail keeps bouncing

Dear madam/sir,

We use Virtualmin to configuring our servers (now we have 3).

I do have a problem with receiving e-mail. They keep on bouncing with the message: Unknown host in virtual alias table.

I have absolutely no idea why this is happening.

I've changed the MX records so that all of them were pointing to the new server. I had to change them back again to the old server in order for us to be able to keep on receiving mail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Eelco

Howdy -- did any emails work on your new server? Or were they all failing with that same error?

If they were all failing -- one thing to look into would be to log into your server as root, and run the "hostname" command.

After running that, verify that your full hostname shows up next to your external IP address in /etc/hosts.

Then, look in /etc/postfix/main.cf, and look for the "mydestination" line. Your hostname should show up on that line, or else messages could bounce.

It works!

Thanks for this Friday afternoon high. Great way to start the weekend.
