No Internet connection after installing cloudmin gpl

It looks like cloudmin installation creates a new virtual eth interface called peth. Even after changing to eth0, it reverts back to peth and i lose connection to internet on this machine.

I have a virtualmin gpl running on machine 2 as a backup for virtualmin pro server on machine 1.

on the gpl machine, i wanted to try cloudmin. but after installing, i am unable to connect to internet.

both servers are not behind any firewall/router. they are directly connected to the cable modem through a gigabit switch.

appreciate help

Cloudmin GPL installs Xen, which adds some interfaces like peth and xenbr but shouldn't break any existing network connections.

What goes wrong when you try connecting to the internet exactly? For example, can you run ping

no i cannot run ping; says unknown host.

when i change the peth to eth0, i have connection for some time.

also, i noted, whenever i download any image from in the cloudmin, i lose connection if the image file is larger. i dont know if this is related.

What do you mean by changing peth0 to eth0 exactly? Is this a routing change, or are you modifying the IPs on those interfaces?

no, it is not a routing change.

I have a monitor connected to the server machine.

I logged into gnome desktop and changed peth0 to eth0 in network settings.

And this is a CentOS 5 or RHEL 5 system?

I have no idea why that would be happening, sorry.. Cloudmin itself never changes eth0 or peth0. Instead, all it does is install the Xen packages, which theoretically might do this.

Have you created any virtual systems using Cloudmin yet?

not yet.

That is exactly where/when i ran into this issue.

Whenever I tried to download an OS image from webmin, i lose connection.

Now, after restarting, I have net connection on the machine. It has been stable for a day now I did not try downloading again.

If you would like to have a look into it, let me know.

I think I would need to login to your system myself as root via SSH to debug this further. Losing the internet connection while download an image is very odd, and points to some deeper issue.

Do you see this when you download other large files?
