Virtualmin Pro from Centos to Ubuntu

We are planning on retiring our current Centos 5 server. It only has a few domains and web pages on it. The new server will be running Ubunto 10.04 LTS. We are running VirtualMin Pro. If I use the domain backup in the Centos 5 version and just do a restore into the ubunto version will my virtual server just run, or will I be in for a lot of tweaking.

Howdy -- it should indeed work just fine to generate Virtual Server backups on your CentOS server, then import those backups on your new Ubuntu server.

You'll of course want to test a bit before making the new server live, but it should work well. If not, let us know so we can try and figure out what's awry :-)

Yes, that will work fine.

The recommended migration process is :

  1. Install Virtualmin on the new system
  2. Configure it how you like, in terms of username format and so on.
  3. Backup all domains on the source system, copy over the backup file
  4. Restore the backups on the new system.

When doing a backup, you can also select to include various global Virtualmin settings like templates and plans, if you want them moved over too.
