xen desktop

hi jamie I like to get a desktop working for a client.
untill now I have tried Ubuntu en centos which where both working initially (installing xwindows manually).
However after running the updates on the vps, xwindows disappeared all together and centos went into a kernel panic, not booting at all.

I wondered how this could be?
and how do I get an image of an Ubuntu desktop in the vps? Creating one on my PC with virtualbox and then ssh it over to the Xen? How would I go about it?

thanks

for instance, I have upgraded ubuntu lts 8.04 to ubuntu 10.04 lts before getting xwindows.
but the vps wont boot properly, see attachment

So do you want to run Ubuntu with an X desktop within a Xen VPS?

I've never actually done this .. and I'm not sure if it is possible, as I don't think Xen emulates a video card.

I got it working the first time i installed it. The updates (which are always there) ruined it. If I do not update the system I could work with it, OpenOffice.org is working etc..

Ok .. which specific package update broke it?

unfortunately I dont know. I went with trial and error. There were many updates.

this time I just updated the server only, no xwindows. and it wont boot properly, see attachments I sent in above post.
Do you recognise the error?

If I got it booting properly, I can install the xwindows again. Before I had the 8.04 with xwindows, now Ill try 10.04.

I've never seen that one before! But then again, I use Xen exclusively for server purposes..

well this is a server.
it has no desktop yet. I had the xen 8.04 image installed and upgraded it to 10.04 lts ...
per haps the upgrade didn't realise it is a xen and tries to do stuff it can only do on dedicated server?
Im just guessing

That's possible .. for example, it may try to upgrade the kernel to a version that doesn't work under xen.
