Can't update module

I'm trying to update a module in virtualmin and get this error:

Downloading Webmin module virtual-server .. .. failed : Failed to lookup IP address for

I'm 100% sure the system can resolve hostnames. There is no hostname after the word 'for'.

same issue here too.

Which Webmin version are you running there?

Which Webmin version are you running there?

Webmin version 1.510
Virtualmin version 3.77 Pro

one more thing, our operating system is Ubuntu Linux not Solaris.

smartvirtualmin - what is the exact error message that you are getting? Being on Ubuntu, it should be a different error ..

This would be a completely different issue on Ubuntu/Debian (different package type, different software repository), and 3.78 was not released for those systems until a few hours ago. At the time of your comment 3.77 was the latest release...so there shouldn't have been an update.

Same Problem:

Solaris 10 (i86pc) Webmin version 1.500
Virtualmin version 3.77 Pro

BTW: The cloudmin update fails too - same IP error.

Which page in Virtualmin / Cloudmin are you trying to do the update on?

System Information -> Package Updates -> Link

https://XXX.XXX.XXX:10000/security-updates/index.cgi?mode=updates

Page "Virtualmin Package Updates" -> Click "Update Selected Packages"

Result;

Page "Update Packages"

Now updating virtual-server .. Downloading Webmin module virtual-server .. .. failed : Failed to lookup IP address for

No packages were installed. Check the messages above for the cause of the error.

Ok, I think I see the cause now.

In the Virtualmin Package Updates module, try clicking on "Everything" in the "States to display" list, and then selecting the virtual-server package and hitting the "Update Selected Packages" button.

That didn't work for me, same issue.

Still the same error.

ok, open a new ticket for the ubuntu error?

anyway the message is still:

Now updating virtual-server ..

  Downloading Webmin module virtual-server ..
.. failed : Failed to lookup IP address for

No packages were installed. Check the messages above for the cause of the error.

webmin show that update to me at 2010-04-29

I tried the #11 solution but still recive the same error message.

Another thing to try - go to Webmin -> Webmin Configuration -> Upgrade Webmin -> Update modules, un-check the "Only show which modules would be updated" box, and click "Update Modules".

This one worked.

Thank You.

worked perfectly via #15 way. thanks

OK, I was lurking...I have three Pro servers. One server I updated last week and both webmin and wbm-virtual-server updated fine.

Yesterday I tried to update one and it installed wbm-virtual-server fine but did not update webmin. I used the "webmin update modules" from above and that worked fine for one.

But I am now stuck with one that won't update wbm-virtual-server to version 3.78-1 from 3.77-1. Please help.

bbuhlman - which OS is the problem system running?

If you SSH in as root and run :

yum clean all yum install wbm-virtual-server

what does it output?

[root@intergate ~]# yum clean all Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Cleaning up Everything Cleaning up list of fastest mirrors

Also by mistake ran the install on a server that has wbm-virtual-server-3.78-1 installed and it says the same:

[root@dns-1 ~]# yum install wbm-virtual-server Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * addons: mirror.stanford.edu * base: mirror.5ninesolutions.com * extras: mirrors.netdna.com * updates: mirror.hmc.edu Setting up Install Process Package matching 2:wbm-virtual-server-3.77-1.noarch already installed. What does the /etc/yum.repos.d/virtualmin.repo file contain on the problem system?

[virtualmin] name=Red Hat Enterprise $releasever - $basearch - Virtualmin baseurl=http://5557048:RhXqvjAjdt@software.virtualmin.com/rhel/$releasever/$basearch/ enabled=1 gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-virtualmin gpgcheck=1

I noticed one of the meta-data files in our repository was out of date today, so I refreshed it.

Try running :

yum clean all
yum install wbm-virtual-server

and see if does the update now.

wbm-virtual-server updated fine. I'm good on all the servers now. Thank you for getting back with me.

Another thing to try - go to Webmin -> Webmin Configuration -> Upgrade Webmin -> Update modules, un-check the "Only show which modules would be updated" box, and click "Update Modules".

FWIW, I was encountering this same problem on FreeBSD attempting to upgrade the virtual-server module from version 3.77 to 3.78. The above method seemed to solve the problem.

Thanks.
