Introduction to Cloudmin GPL
The GPL version of Cloudmin is a designed to manage Xen or KVM instances on only a single host system, rather than supporting multiple hosts and virtualization types as in the full (Pro) version. It lets users try out Cloudmin and virtualization concepts without having to purchase the full package.
Installing Cloudmin GPL for Xen
Cloudmin's installer can be used on CentOS, Redhat Enterprise, Debian and Ubuntu systems. It will both install Cloudmin and setup the system as a Xen host, by installing a Xen-capable kernel and associated tools.
You can download the install script for CentOS and Redhat from : http://cloudmin.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/cloudmin-gpl-redhat-install.sh
The install script for Debian and Ubuntu can be downloaded from : http://cloudmin.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/cloudmin-gpl-debian-install.sh
In either case, it needs to be copied to the system you plan to run Cloudmin on and then executed with a command like :
sh cloudmin-gpl-redhat-install.sh
Cloudmin can co-exist with Webmin or Virtualmin GPL on the same system. The installer uses YUM or APT to add the required packages, some from our repository and some from the repository provided by your distribution vendor.
Once installation is complete, you will need to reboot your system. Then go to https://yoursystem:10000 in your browser , download some system images, and type creating a Xen instance.

Cloudmin's installer can be used on CentOS, Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu systems. It will both install Cloudmin and setup the system as a KVM host, by installing KVM and related packages.

Differences between Cloudmin GPL and Pro
Features missing from the GPL version of Cloudmin include :
- Support for multiple virtualization types -- Cloudmin Pro supports Xen, KVM, OpenVZ, LXC, VServers, Solaris Zones virtual systems.
- Can create and manage EC2 accounts, instances, images, addresses and storage volumes.
- The ability to manage multiple host systems (each of which can run multiple virtual systems) from a single interface.
- Support for managing multiple non-virtual systems, such as dedicated machines running Virtualmin.
- Live replication of settings from a Cloudmin master to one or more backup systems.
- Multiple locations for storing system images, to avoid repeated copies to distant datacenters.
Upgrading from Cloudmin GPL to Pro
Cloudmin can be upgraded to the Pro version without effecting any existing settings as follows :
- Go to the Virtualmin shop at http://www.virtualmin.com/catalog/43 and purchase a Cloudmin licence.
- Go to http://www.virtualmin.com/serial and note down your serial number and licence key. There is no need to download the new install script.
- Login to your Cloudmin GPL install, and go to Cloudmin Settings -> Upgrade Cloudmin.
- Enter your new serial number and licence key, then click the Upgrade button.
The full version packages will then be downloaded and installed, and your APT or YUM configuration will be updated to use the correct repositories.
