Domain names shortening in drop-down list on the left quicks-in much too fast: hard to guess domain name

First didn't want to open a new tracker item only for this detail, but it's pretty annoying: so here we go:

The drop-down selector for virtual domains with the ... for long domain names now works correctly (not duplicating letters), but quicks in very fast, so it's always a guessing of domain names even those not very long. I think earlier it was not quicking-in soo fast, specially that the selected one is also displayed with ... in it)

  • Looks odd: e.g.

forge.1234567890a.com

is already truncated into:

forge.12...7890a.com

while leaving space for at least 6-8 more characters on the right in the drop-down.

That looks really odd.

  • I need to hit "Edit Virtual Server" to see the full domain name to be sure to have selected correctly, as there is no full feed-back of the selected domain.

So it's pretty annoying, specially when working on customer domains or on mission-critical ones.

Marking as bug, as it's pretty annoying new behavior: earlier it was quicking in only a few letters later, so most domains didn't have ... in them, but today, most in the list have ... in them.

You can increase the maximum length before the ...s are added if you like .. it's at System Settings -> Module Config -> User interface settings.

Does that help?

Will try. Better would be to have a default value that makes sense out of the release box... Having difficulties to guess domain name while there is space on the right is just odd to the newcommer... Have a number of Virtualmin installs as you know ;-) But it's also the first impression for your new customers ;-) And who would guess that the is a setting even for that little UI detail.... I didn't :-D

Actually, I took another look at this, and found a bug where the shortening happens too soon, as you described. This will be fixed in the 3.78 release. Also, it will add an option to remove excess characters from the right rather than the middle..
