Using virtualmin GPL to manage emails (with postfix), every operation performed by users is very very slow. It can take up to 1 minute to list virtual domains managed by a user. And the server CPU goes to 100% usage due to

Howdy -- I have a few questions for you regarding the slowness you're seeing --

  • Are you using the most recent Virtualmin, version 3.76?

  • How much RAM is in your system? Can you show the output of "free"?

  • How many Virtual Servers do you have setup on your server?

  • How many users are setup on your server (for example, what is the output of "wc -l /etc/passwd")

  • Can you run a "ps auxw", and attach the output of that as a file to this request?

  • I'm running version 3.58

  • 7Gbyte RAM total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 6893268 6851952 41316 0 305112 5318628 -/+ buffers/cache: 1228212 5665056 Swap: 4192924 112 4192812

  • I'm running about 650 virtual servers with about 7500 users

Sounds like you have a bunch of users there! :-)

Is it an option to upgrade to the latest version?

Virtualmin 3.58 is over a year and a half old, and a lot of improvements have been made during that time; including several rather substantial changes to resource usage.

If you're seeing slowness issues on current versions, it's possible for us to fix those.

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do on an older version... any fixes made to the code would be released as a new version :-)

I upgraded to 3.77. Same issues.
