this is getting old

come on folks. i installed the new version of webmin and ow 3 out of 4 of my domains don't show up in virt anymore. I'm not an ideal user i know but this is getting beyond ridiculous. i wish i was doing something non-standard but i'm not which is why i cannot believe the huge mount of issues i ahve with this product.

I am forced yet again to uninstall then reinstall webmin after a failed upgrade and who know how long it's going to take to recover form this latest webmin bomb. I relaly like how the product is laid out and it's ease of use and excellent security record but this is costing me tons more time than it should.

Could you provide more details .. what do you mean by domains now showing up exactly?

here's the skinny. i ran the update then i could not add any databases..then i could not access newly created databases. Existing databases were fine...except if i tried to install new software that required accesss to the databases. As usual no errors were given.

I noticed there was a webmin upgrade so i ran it.

rebooted

webmin bomb.

reinstall time

yes i could have contacted you folks first but since this isn't paid support and i am under time issues(have to get new site online..which is now delayed) I don't have the time to figure what nuance it is this time..windows approach..remove/reinstall.

Ok .. what do you mean by a "webmin bomb" though?

reinstall time

Why do you keep doing this?

You've filed a half dozen issues over the past two or three years that were entirely caused by uninstalling Webmin, which destroys the Virtualmin meta-data. We've explained this on all of those occasions. I don't understand how you can possibly expect any other outcome from deleting vital information about your system. Uninstalling Webmin removes your Webmin-related configuration files.

We have explained that uninstalling the software deletes data. How can we possibly be any more emphatic about this? If you want the software to work, and keep up with your virtual servers, it has to be installed; and uninstalling it is not a solution to any problem (unless the problem is that you don't want to use Virtualmin/Webmin any more).

Every issue you've reported that I can remember has been because you uninstalled Virtualmin or Webmin, and in so doing, you deleted the Virtualmin data. Stop doing that, and you'll never have to file another ticket about this problem.

We can't make you stop breaking your Webmin/Virtualmin installation by uninstalling/reinstalling it. We can only recommend you not do it. If you have a problem with the installation, ask about the problem; do not uninstall and then ask about the problem you caused by uninstalling.

So, let's be very clear:

Do not uninstall Webmin or Virtualmin unless what you really want is to uninstall Webmin and Virtualmin. Uninstalling/reinstalling is never a solution to whatever problem you have. It can only ever break things.
