I recently had a new server installed with webmin on debian 6.
what happens is that when I create a new website be it on virtualmin or through command line, the mysql password is never set correctly.
I noticed this because I was creating several domains all with the same password and on "Servers / MySQL Database Server / User Permissions" I would see totally different values on the column "Encrypted password".
Apparently the issue is as reported on http://www.virtualmin.com/node/19642 "When creating a virtual server using the Default Template and Default Plan, the resulting MySQL database password is always randomly generated no matter if I set "Keep MySQL and administration passwords in sync?" to yes or no."
On my case I was using the Default Template but not the Default Plan. I was using a plan I had created which I created by cloning the Default Plan.
Can anyowe give advice as how to overcome the issue ? Do I need to create new plans from scratch ?
What about when I would like to automate server installation without any kind of manual setup ? Is there a setting anyware regarding this ?
Best regards. Telmo Dias

If you go into System Settings -> Server Templates -> Default -> Administration User -- what is "Store clear text passwords" set to?

It's set to No . The weird thing is that I have another server which has the same version of webmin only running on debian 5 while the new one runs on debian 6. This option doesn't show on te old one now I noticed.
Should I set it to yes?
Anyway, why does it work when I re-set the mysql password and only doesn't work at domain creation time ?
Thanks

Yeah, try setting that option to "Yes", and see if things work properly.
That option only appeared in a recent version of Virtualmin -- is it possible that your Debian 5 server is running a slightly older Virtualmin version?

Yes, it's likely. I don't think I ever updated virtualmim on that server. It was setup arround 1 year and 3 months ago.
The new one was installed 1 month ago but only now I was updating it. Yesterday around 50 packages...
I'll try it tomorrow morning and post feedback.
Thanks

Hello just to say that it worked out ok. Now the passwords match and I can access mysql with the same pass that was set on user creation. Thanks!
