Help setting up RAID 1 on live box

Hi,

we have webmin running on an 80gb SATA hard drive, /dev/sda1. This already has some virtual hosts that are live. We then added another PATA hard drive to the system, /dev/hdb1. The aim is to setup RAID 1 so we have a mirror of the first drive.

We want an exact mirror. So if the main drive fails we want to be able to switch to the mirror and just boot the server as if nothing happened. is this going to be possible with different drive types (SATA and PATA)? i ask this because if the first drive fails and we remove it, i doubt the OS will boot off the second drive because the system will be trying to mount /dev/sda1 but the second drive will still be /dev/hdb1. am i correct?

Assuming that the above is possible - ive looked at the linux raid module and played around but i doubt im doing it correctly. Can you suggest some steps so that i can set up a mirror correctly? a reminder that the existing data on /dev/sda1 needs to be kept intact and mirrored onto /dev/hdb1
