A backup restoring problem (what is the backup structure ?)

Hi everybody I was enlighted by the backup/restore function of virtualmin : easy to set and to use. But I never had a reason to test it until these days : my server file system died (fsck fixes problems, then the problems come back,...), and I have now to move all my domains to a new server. Alas, I can't seem to do it ! When I try domain restoration, here's what I get :

Starting restore of 3 domains from local file /root/sauvegarde/..

Extracting backup archive files ..
.. done

Backup does not contain virtual server information for missing domain xxx.fr.

.. failed! See the progress output above for the reason why.

On virtualmin.com I found a few messages with the same error message, but the how & why are unclear to me. I tried a lot of things : changing my linux distribution (I now use ubuntu 14.04.03), trying options,... Nothing worked.
When I untar the backup, I find all my files, and that's a good thing, but I can't find in which file the domain details are stored. Could it be possible that I performed backups without this important informations ?
I'll take any help ! Thanks by advance.

Howdy,

The backup and restore should definitely work, even if your distro or version was changed, so long as it was created with Virtualmin's backup.

What is the output of this command:

ls /root/sauvegarde/

Also, do you recall what screen you had used to perform the initial backup?

For each backuped domain I have three files :
- mydomain.com.tar.gz
- mydomain.com.tar.gz.info
- mydomain.com.tar.gz.dom
The first one is quite large and contains all the domain folder. The others ars much smaller.

I can't tell exactly wich options I selected, but the backu seems ok.

Howdy,

If those files were recently copied to that server from another one, you may want to try re-copying them. There may have been a problem of some kind during the copy process.

Another thing you could try is to restore just one of the .tar.gz files, just to see what happens.

It normally does work though to point the restore process at a single directory containing all the backup files.

I couldn't re-copy anything : the origin server is dead for good.
The files seem ok, I have one backup directory for each of my domains, and all of them exist in five versions (I asked virtualmin to backup everyday, keeping only the last five.
The tar files seem completely ok, they contain all my files, but what I can't recover are the domain informations themselves : DNS, etc.

Starting restore of 1 domains from ... on FTP server ....

Downloading archive from FTP server ..
.. done

Extracting backup archive files ..
.. done

Backup does not contain virtual server information for missing domain mydomain.com.

.. failed! See the progress output above for the reason why.
