Adding 2nd IP address to server

OK so I'm moving from Plesk to Virtualmin and I'm running into a problem when I try and add a second IP address.

My provider gives me 2 IP addresses which I use for separate sites to allow SSL certificates on each site. I want to add the second IP address ( first is auto inserted by the installed ) and then assign a unique IP to each site in Virtualmin.

I've done searches and it seems that I need to add a virtual interface for eth0 as I only have 1 NIC on the machine. However doing this renders the box useless as it kills the network and I can't reconnect to the box forcing a reinstall of the OS (Debian 6)

If I try and add the IP through Virtualmin it says the IP is not assigned and I should use the Network module which then takes me back to the previous step.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to get 2 unique IPs on my server. Thanks.

Howdy,

It sounds like you want that second IP address to be used for one particular domain.

So, after adding that domain into Virtualmin (via Create Virtual Server) -- to add an IP address for that domain -- click Server Configuration -> Change IP Address, click "Use Private IP Address", and then enter the IP address you'd like it to use.

Then, Virtualmin will setup the ethernet alias for you, and configure that Virtual Server to use it.
